As young men are recruited, trained and deployed in the military, they quickly mature from high school aged sports and video game playing boys into war-hardened men, thus the phrase: "The Uniform Makes the Man." The same saying could also be applied to the various other standard "uniforms" traditionally worn by men in male oriented work and leisure activities. The androgynous youth seen in the three vintage photo postcards here put a new twist on the adage in the lack of gender clarity shown in their facial features and body types. Instead of making the "man" out of these youths, the "uniforms" merely seem awkward.
